Medical research centers and Hospitals around the world offer Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cell Therapy for the treatment of Orthopedic, Dermatology, Dental conditions. This new and advanced innovative treatment has been demonstrated to promote a rapid healing response, reduced pain and a quicker return to activity.
But is this method certified? And more importantly, is this method safe?
Let’s have a look what is Regenerative Method and How it works to determine whether its safe or not.
What is PRP Therapy?
Injectable platelet therapy and stem cell had been used for more than 20 years for a wide variety of medical treatments including oral surgery, dentistry and skin care. In recent times, its application has extended to sports medicine, cardiovascular surgery, and cosmetic surgery. The safety of injectable platelets and growth factors has been well established in the medical literature.
You may have heard that platelet-rich plasma has been used to treat both professional and nonprofessional athletes for years, but what is it? When a tendon or ligament is injured, incomplete healing may occur. This can lead to chronic pain or a loss of function.
Our blood contains platelets which are cells designed to heal injuries. By extracting, concentrating and injecting platelets into injured tissue, we can facilitate healing and eliminate pain. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a revolutionary treatment that relieves pain by promoting long lasting healing of musculoskeletal conditions.
Physical therapy of the newly repaired tissues will help to restore pain-free mobility, strength and endurance.
How is PRP performed?
The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is performed in our clinic. A few ounces of blood are collected and the blood is placed in a centrifuge, to separate the different types of blood cells. The injury site is cleansed and numbed with a local anesthetic. The PRP solution is directed into the injured tissues under ultrasound guidance. Proteins are released from the PRP solution within minutes to start the healing process. Patients are advised to rest and use ice for any swelling that may occur within the first 48 hours. Most people resume normal activities within the week, however complete healing may take up to 3 months. Physical therapy is usually combined with PRP therapy to promote the return of strength and mobility.
